Five on Friday

Yay! Yay yay yay! It's Friday! It's been a long week in our household. I've been feeling a little under the weather but we are SO happy for a nice weekend!

Let's talk chili. Every fall we kick off the season with a big batch of chili. We use the slow cooker and add all the fixins in. We didn't do corn bread or sourdough bread this year but I guess that just means we'll have to cook it again :) We tried a turkey chili recipe this year and of course added our own touches. I had to share!

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion - chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves - minced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 4 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 28-ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 15 oz cans dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 15 oz cans light red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 bag of frozen corn
  • Toppings of choice

  1. In a large pot, warm olive oil and add in the onion and garlic. Saute until translucent, then add the ground turkey. Cook on medium high heat until browned.
  2. Pour turkey mixture into the crock pot, then add the remaining ingredients.
  3. Cook on high for 2-3 hours. Garnish with cheese, tortilla chips, and sour cream and serve!

One day this week while I was checking out at Wegmans, these little bars caught my eye. I am the marketers dream. I really liked the packaging and decided to test them out. If you haven't tried them, go buy them! They are like a chewier version of a clif bar.
I have lived in the Baltimore/DC metro area my whole life and have never seen the Blue Angels fly. Not once. I've gone to NFL football games, never seen them. I frequent Annapolis. I'm just never at the right place at the right time. This weekend I will be though! Since our trip to Charleston has been postponed, we will be able to see them fly this weekend! I am so giddy about it.

If you have any suggestions for comfy cardigans, let me know please! I have this cardigan from Nordstrom that I got last year and absolutely love it. It's soft and stretchy and long. It went out of stock and has not come back. So disappointing. I decided to buy the cardigan below from Urban Outfitters. It looks super comfy and I like the chunkiness. I'll let ya know how it turns out.
On Saturday my parents came up for dinner. We went to a very small boutiquey restaurant right by our house and when we got back from dinner we ended up playing Table Topics. I told them we would play one card since it's not really meant for two couples. The first card I picked up apparently sparked a BIG conversation. They ended up staying for another hour because my dad had

The card pictured below is what I drew. I had no idea that my dad felt very strongly about stay at home moms and how important their role is in a family. My mom worked part time when I was born and went back full time when I was school age (I'm the baby). It really got me thinking that my parents and I never really get to actually talk about deeper things. I talk to my mom every single day but not typically about anything more than day to day happenings. I really appreciated our conversation and ended up learning from them!
Alright, enough from me! Go enjoy your Friday!

  1. I've never heard of that game but it sounds like it could be fun! I might have to check it out :) I really love this cardigan - so cozy to put on while hanging at home and also cute to put on when you go out!
